With age the skin of the forehead sags and relaxes, giving the face a look older and tired which causes what is often called the hood effect because of the skin falling and wrinkled. Brow lift surgery is a simple procedure that involves lifting the area directly over the eye, opening the eye area and giving the face a younger look.
This involves lifting the forehead itself and tightening the muscles that have been stretched over time, as well as tightening any loose or wrinkled skin in the area and reducing excess fat tissue.
While facial lift surgery is often performed for purely cosmetic reasons, falling eyebrows and upper eyelids can affect vision in the most extreme cases and this can be a quick and easy way to rectify the situation.

Before the operation:
By taking the time to prepare your face lift procedure in advance, you can ensure a smooth recovery. Read carefully the pre and postoperative instructions of your surgeon and contact us if you have any questions. It is also advisable to follow these tips:
- Stop smoking two weeks before surgery, even temporarily, as this may delay healing.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including vitamins and supplements. These can cause dangerous and excessive bleeding.
- Since you will not be able to get home from the surgery center, be sure to arrange a return home.
- Have someone to help you during the first few days after the intervention if needed.
- Have an ice pack on hand to place on your forehead. This helps to deflate.
- Stay in a comfortable place to rest at home during your recovery, with lots of pillows to lift your head, as well as reading materials to pass the time.

Front lift : Procedure and techniques
The frontal lifting operation is performed under general anesthesia and lasts between one and two hours depending on the technique used. There are two types of forehead lifting surgery (described below) to choose from depending on your skin type, elasticity and where your hair line is.
OPEN BROW LIFT
If the open-face lift is the most appropriate for you, the surgeon makes an incision of one ear, along or slightly behind the hairline to the other ear. If you are bald or have a receding hairline, the incision can usually be hidden in a natural fold of the forehead. Once the incision is made, the surgeon carefully separates the skin from the upper face of the underlying tissue before working to reduce or tighten the muscles. The skin is then lifted and sewn or tied up and the excess skin removed.
ENDOSCOPIC BROW LIFT
During this forehead lifting procedure, the surgeon makes three to five small incisions at various places on the scalp through which a thin plastic tube with a camera is inserted.
The images collected from the camera are transmitted live to a screen which allows the surgeon to operate on the muscles and adipose tissue behind the hairline. The eyebrows are lifted and held in place with temporary dots or screws behind the hairline and the incisions are sewn.

After the surgery:
It is to be expected that the recovery of the frontal lift lasts one to two weeks. Bruising and swelling may occur early, as well as temporary black eyes. These problems go away on their own, cold compresses on the forehead can help.
The pain is normally minimal, but some areas of soreness may occur. Numbness behind the incision site is not uncommon as there are several nerves in the treatment area.
Normally, numbness disappear quickly and most patients return to work after one week.
The frontal lift is considered a safe and effective procedure. However, as with any invasive surgery, there are risks.
Choosing a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon to perform your face lift is the best guarantee to limit any complications.
